The Bridge

This is from Michael Bryettes Gallery....

Throughout our lives, when faced with turbulent waters, most of us will follow the rocky shore until we find that bridge that gets us to a better place on the other side. So it's a sad and strange irony that in moments of hopelessness there are some who don't seek a metaphorical bridge to get them over the rough seas, but rather a physical one to leap from, as a means of giving up.

The recent attention by the media to bullying and subsequent suicides by a disproportionate number of LGBT youth was the catalyst for my current painting. While I did not want to romanticize the act in any way, I felt it was important put the viewer in that critical moment.
